I am thrilled to have the privilege of teaching your very special kindergartner. I believe that respectful, caring bonds with children and their families are the vital foundation for a wonderful kindergarten experience. As a teacher, I share with parents the responsibility for teaching your child and I welcome you into the classroom to be a part of these learning experiences.
This is my sixth year working at Franklin Elementary. The last five years I was a substitute teacher exclusively at Franklin. I have worked at length with Kindergarten during my time at Franklin. I have a Bachelors Degree from Indiana University and I graduated with a Masters degree in Elementary Education from the DePaul University of Chicago.
I have been married for 11 years to my husband Charles who is a high school History teacher. I have two daughters Sophie and Maddie. Sophie will be going into 5th grade and Maddie into 4th grade here at Franklin. We also have three 4-legged "family" members, a Shi-Tzu named Oliver, a Golden Retriever named Charlie, and a Golden Doodle named Einstein. I am a runner and cyclist, and I am training for a marathon this fall. I also enjoy spending time in the mountains with my family, hiking, biking, or relaxing with a good book.
I believe that each child is unique, and each child learns in a different way. One of my jobs as a teacher is to help your child discover his or her individualilty and work alongside with them to maximize it. I believe that emotional engagement is the key to all powerful learning. That is why I bring love, laughter, passion and meaningful project work into my classroom. I always look for ways to personalize learning and engage your child's imagination. I believe in hands-on experiences, learning creatively and learning through play.
